My Owl Cousin
Published in the Young Writers Anthology ‘Once upon a Rhyme’
My cousin Caspar is like an owl.
Bright, beady eyes,
Wise & quiet
And very inquisitive
He loves staying up at night
And hides wearily during the day.

I wish
I wish I was a dolphin so I could swim in the sea.
I wish my brother was a dolphin with me.
I wish I was an eagle,
With brilliant sight beyond the human eye.
I wish I was a GT racing car.
I wish all my wishes came true.

White, snowy surroundings.
My small feet on my father’s big feet.
My father says I look like
A human in a white suit,
With a black hat.
The warmth of my big dad’s belly
Keeps out the cold.
Beak to beak, he feeds me fish.
I’m never afraid
Thanks to my dad.
He’s the best penguin
In the world.
